The forest is drying out. A snowy winter is now an exception, and without a solid snow cover the water balance is always unfavorable. On top of that, there is less and less rainfall. Even when snow does come, it changes little, because increasingly dry springs are becoming the rule. The water deficit is already visible in the trees — spruces are the first to die, because it is too dry and too hot for them. Who is next?
