OLD OAKWOOD
This reserve is beautiful, and so are its trees. As the name suggests, it is mainly old oaks — nearly 180-year-old giants. They are accompanied by slightly younger hornbeams and elms, together forming a green canopy high above your head. The reserve also protects pines, some of them over two hundred years old. In the Knyszyn Forest, old pines are not a common sight. Pine is one of the main commercial species, and in practice most pines around eighty years old are cut down. Here, a few venerable pines still stand — magnificent, massive, and arrow-straight.
