CHWOINA

That’s what people here call this tiny patch of forest, cut off by fields from the main body of the Knyszyn Forest. Set on a pleasant hill, this few-hectare fragment betrays its kinship with the forest’s deep thickets — if only through the mighty pines so eagerly felled by foresters. Here they somehow survived — but for how long?

This place also hides history: the trenches and firing positions from World War II are still very clearly preserved.
