TSAR’S DITCH
This is the name of the ditch that once separated the lands of the village of Studzianki from the Forest. Today the border runs elsewhere, and the Tsar’s Ditch marks the edge of the Knyszyn Forest Landscape Park here. They say a landscape park is, formally speaking, a very weak form of protection — and that’s true. But when you walk along the Tsar’s Ditch, you can see the difference at a glance: within the park there are old, mighty trees and rich lower layers of the forest, while what lies beyond looks like an ordinary plank plantation. Along the Tsar’s Ditch runs a trybka (a small forest track) — a great place for cross-country ski training or MTB rides. You just have to ride carefully, because right next to the path, one after another, stand huge anthills.
